How much does a Bali trip cost? Real budget
Bali can be a very budget-friendly destination or turn into a fairly premium trip. Here's how the real 14-day budget breaks down by travel style.
"Bali is dirt cheap" is what people usually say before traveling, almost as a warning and a promise at the same time — and it's partly true, but the real range is still fairly wide depending on how you want to travel.
The big spending blocks
A 14-day trip to Bali breaks down into five categories: lodging, food and drink, transport (Grab/Gojek, a private driver and fast boats), activities and experiences, and the international flight.
Of those five, lodging is the one that varies most, by far: you can sleep in a low-cost hotel for €20-50 a night or in a villa with a private pool for €500-1,000 or more.
Three ways to do the same trip
Low cost: simple hotels, local warungs, shared transport. Excluding flights, the budget runs around €1,000 – 1,400, and you live it perfectly well.
Standard, the one that best represents this itinerary: mid-range hotels, the occasional special experience, private transport on excursion days. This rises to €1,500 – 2,100 excluding flights, and it's where we landed.
Premium: villas and resorts, fine dining, private experiences from start to finish. This can reach €2,300 – 3,500 or more, excluding flights.
You don't need to spend a lot of money to enjoy Bali: some of the best experiences of the trip — a temple, a rice field, a warung, a beach, a sunset — cost very little or nothing at all.
What you shouldn't forget to budget for
The inter-island fast boats — Bali-Nusa Penida and Nusa Penida-Gili Trawangan are two of the items that spike the most if booked last minute, watch out for that —, cash in rupiah for warungs and markets, and an eSIM before traveling.
Your eSIM, with a discount
An eSIM gives you data as soon as you land, with no hunting for wifi or swapping SIM cards, and our guides recommend setting it up before you leave. Airalo offers eSIMs for more than 200 destinations and, according to its own website, more than 30 million people use it, its apps are rated 4.7 on iOS and 4.6 on Android, and it offers 24/7 support in several languages. Here are Airalo's eSIMs for Indonesia (Bali) (affiliate link).
With code NEWTOAIRALO15 you get 15% off your first eSIM, until December 31, 2026.
Before buying one, check that your phone supports eSIM and is carrier-unlocked.

How many days do you need in Bali? Why we chose 14
Bali has enough to fill much more than two weeks, but not everyone has a free month. Here's how we decided 14 days was what let us combine Ubud, the islands and Uluwatu without turning the trip into a race.

The 5 excursions you can't miss in Ubud
Ubud packs in some of Bali's most special landscapes and temples. If we had to pick just five stops, these would be them.

My trip to Bali: 14 days, Ubud to Uluwatu
Fourteen days, five completely different areas, and the constant feeling of seeing too many faces of the same destination to fit into a single suitcase of memories. This was the trip that ended up becoming the itinerary we sell today.
