Best time to visit Bali: dry season vs rainy season

Bali has a tropical climate all year. When the dry season is, which months we recommend and whether the rainy season is worth it.

Bali has a tropical climate all year round, divided into two seasons: the dry season, roughly from April to October, and the rainy season, roughly from November to March.

The dry season

It's usually the most popular because there's less rain and better conditions for beaches, excursions and outdoor activities. But careful: dry season doesn't mean it never rains. Bali has a tropical climate and a storm can show up even in the dry months.

Our favorite months

May, June and September are especially interesting because they combine good weather with a somewhat calmer experience than the peak of the season. July and August are the months of highest demand: lodging and activity prices are higher and places are more crowded.

What if you can only travel in the rainy season?

Don't rule Bali out. The rain can be intense, but it often comes as heavy, relatively short storms. That said, if your absolute priority is snorkeling, the beach and perfect conditions for excursions, the dry season normally offers better odds.

Before you snorkel at Nusa Penida, check the sea conditions. Tides and currents change fast: don't get in just because you see others doing it.

Our recommendation

May, June or September if you can choose. If you travel in the rains, leave buffer days and book fast boats in advance. You'll find the route in our 14-day Bali itinerary, and the boats between islands in fast boats in Bali.
