Best things to do in the Philippines: our favorites
Island hopping in El Nido and Coron, wreck diving, surfing at Cloud 9 and a scooter ride: what we recommend most in the Philippines.
The Philippines is lived on the water, on a scooter and without rushing. This is what we recommend most from our route through El Nido, Coron and Siargao, with the details that matter.
Island hopping in El Nido
The combined A + C tour is the most complete: Big Lagoon, Secret Lagoon, Small Lagoon, Hidden Beach and Helicopter Island in one day, with snorkeling and local lunch included. Bring biodegradable sunscreen, because at several stops they don't allow conventional creams. We cover it in full in island hopping in El Nido.

Coron: Kayangan Lake and Twin Lagoon
For us it's the day that justifies the trip. Kayangan Lake, Twin Lagoon and Coral Garden, with crystal-clear water and cliffs. The Super Ultimate Tour (roughly €70 to €95) has more stops than the standard one (€45 to €65). Try to be among the first to reach Kayangan Lake, because by mid-morning it fills up.
Climbing Mount Tapyas
A climb that takes effort and stairs, but with one of the best views in Coron. Best at the end of the afternoon, to combine it with the sunset.
Wreck diving
If you're certified, Coron is one of the best places in the world to dive among sunken ships. It's usually 2 dives, for around €70 to €100.
A scooter ride in El Nido
With a driving license, rent a scooter and ride to Lio Beach, Nacpan Beach and Duli Beach. Set out early, because sunset comes early.
Surfing at Cloud 9, Siargao
A surf lesson at the island's most famous spot, first thing in the morning. Even if you've never surfed, it's one of those experiences that define the trip. And a scooter ride along Coconut Road, with no fixed route.
Karaoke and a massage
Karaoke is almost a national sport, and a traditional massage is very cheap and very welcome after days of boats and snorkeling.
The Philippines isn't a destination to rush. It's a trip to enjoy the process.
Our recommendation
Pick the combined A + C in El Nido, the long tour in Coron and a morning of surfing in Siargao. You'll find it all in our 14-day Philippines itinerary, and where to eat in where to eat in the Philippines.
