What to see in Nusa Penida: Kelingking and manta rays

Nusa Penida packs in some of the most spectacular landscapes of the whole trip. Here's what you can't miss if you spend a night on the island.

Nusa Penida doesn't look like anything you've seen before in Bali — you don't come here for pretty cafés or beach clubs, but for vertigo-inducing cliffs, hidden beaches and breathtaking turquoise water.

Kelingking Beach

Probably Nusa Penida's most famous image: a T-Rex-shaped cliff and a spectacular ocean panorama, with the small beach hundreds of meters below. You don't need to hike down to the beach — the descent is demanding, especially in strong heat. If you're not used to trekking, enjoy it comfortably from the upper viewpoints.

Broken Beach and Angel's Billabong

The sea has carved a huge natural arch into the cliffs, forming a circular pool connected to the ocean — almost surreal seen from above, hard to believe it's entirely natural. Right next to it, Angel's Billabong is a natural pool set among rocks.

The tide and sea conditions matter a lot here. Don't get in the water just because you see others doing it; ask first.

Crystal Bay

One of the island's best-known beaches and a classic snorkeling spot. If you don't feel like getting in the water, sitting on the beach and enjoying the late afternoon is more than worth it too.

Manta Point

And before leaving the island, the star experience: swimming with manta rays at Manta Point / Manta Bay. You don't need to know how to dive, snorkeling is enough — although a sighting is never fully guaranteed, since these are wild animals that come and go as they please.

Suddenly, a shadow appears beneath you and starts growing... and you realize it's a manta ray several meters wide passing calmly underwater.

Nusa Penida is more rustic than Canggu or Ubud, and part of its charm lies exactly there, in how unpolished it still feels.

Don't try to do it in a single day

In the itinerary we sleep a night in Nusa Penida to see it properly — we walk you through exactly how to organize the day.
