Uluwatu: cliffs, a temple and the best way to close a trip
Temples on the edge of a cliff, beaches hidden among rocks, and a sunset with the Kecak dance in the background. This is how this Bali trip closes.
Uluwatu is the perfect setting to close out a trip around Bali — limestone cliffs, hidden beaches, surf, and some of the most spectacular sunsets on the whole island.

Pura Luhur Uluwatu
The temple sits on one of the most spectacular cliffs on the southern tip, with the Indian Ocean stretching out below as far as you can see. Don't go just thinking "another temple to see" — the path that runs along the cliffs, with the ocean crashing against the rock and tiny surfers below, makes the place feel far bigger in person than in any photo.
Uluwatu's monkeys have a reputation for stealing things, and it's well earned — keep sunglasses, phones and hats secure, don't leave them loose for even a second.
Kecak dance at sunset
It's performed in an amphitheater above the cliffs, staging episodes from the Ramayana accompanied by the male choir's characteristic repetitive chant, with the ocean behind and the sky slowly changing color as the sun sets.
Book ahead if you can, especially in peak season — temple entry and the performance can require separate tickets, and the show's capacity is limited.
Padang Padang, Bingin and Suluban
Three beaches with very different personalities: Padang Padang, hidden among cliffs and accessible through a small gap in the rock; Bingin, more bohemian and surf-oriented; and Suluban, hidden among cliffs and caves, the wildest face of the three.
Our real recommendation. Don't try to do all of them in a single day — pick one beach, one experience and one sunset, and let the rest of the time simply pass without forcing anything more.
Live the trip's last big day
The full Uluwatu day, with the temple, the Kecak dance and the restaurants with a view, already organized in the itinerary.

How many days do you need in Bali? Why we chose 14
Bali has enough to fill much more than two weeks, but not everyone has a free month. Here's how we decided 14 days was what let us combine Ubud, the islands and Uluwatu without turning the trip into a race.

The 5 excursions you can't miss in Ubud
Ubud packs in some of Bali's most special landscapes and temples. If we had to pick just five stops, these would be them.

How much does a Bali trip cost? Real budget
Bali can be a very budget-friendly destination or turn into a fairly premium trip. Here's how the real 14-day budget breaks down by travel style.
