Where to eat in Bali: our favorite restaurants
Restaurants and warungs we recommend in Ubud, Canggu, Nusa Penida, Gili Trawangan and Uluwatu, from babi guling to dinner in a cave.
Bali has one of the most varied food scenes in Southeast Asia: you can eat a nasi goreng for a few euros at a warung and, that same night, sit down at a fine-dining restaurant. This is our selection, by area.
Ubud
- Warung Babi Guling Ibu Oka: one of the classic places to try babi guling, the famous Balinese roast pig.
- Warung Biah Biah: simple Indonesian food, perfect for a first night. Sweet Orange Warung: dinner surrounded by rice fields.
- Hujan Locale: modern Indonesian cooking, a bit more refined.
- Indus Restaurant: eat with views over the valley, especially beautiful at sunset.
- Locavore NXT and Mozaic: fine dining, for a truly special dinner. Book ahead.

Canggu
- La Rosa: in front of Batu Bolong Beach, ideal for sunset. Casa Tua: Indonesian cooking in a relaxed setting.
- Lola's Cantina Mexicana: tacos and margaritas. Muda: Asian fusion cooking.
- Penny Lane: spectacular decor and a very social atmosphere. Smoke Bali (Echo Beach): barbecue and nightlife atmosphere.
- Santanera: Latin American cooking, a very good place to go in a group.
Nusa Penida and Gili Trawangan
- On Nusa Penida: Warung Jungle (grilled fish and seafood), Mambo Beach Restaurant and Amok Sun & Cliff Club, with a pool and sunset.
- On Gili Trawangan: Kayu Café for breakfast, Regina Pizzeria (order it to go and head down to watch the sunset), IJO Restaurant for a more sophisticated dinner and The Shack for something affordable.
Uluwatu
- Artisan: breakfasts and brunch. Gooseberry French Restaurant: French cooking, a change of pace. Masonry: modern Mediterranean.
- The Cave: dinner inside a real cave. More an experience than a restaurant; book ahead.
You don't need to find the best restaurant in Bali. Often the best place is a small warung you find by chance.
Our recommendation
Save the special dinner, Locavore NXT or Mozaic, for when you know Balinese food better, not for the first night. For day to day, the warungs. The full plan is in our 14-day Bali itinerary, and the experiences in best things to do in Bali.

How many days do you need in Bali? Why we chose 14
Bali has enough to fill much more than two weeks, but not everyone has a free month. Here's how we decided 14 days was what let us combine Ubud, the islands and Uluwatu without turning the trip into a race.

The 5 excursions you can't miss in Ubud
Ubud packs in some of Bali's most special landscapes and temples. If we had to pick just five stops, these would be them.
