My trip to Croatia: 7 days between Dubrovnik and Hvar

Seven days, two completely different sides of the same country, and the constant feeling of having done two trips in one. This is the real trip that became the itinerary we sell today.

Seven days. A city that looks pulled from another century and an island that feels like a completely different life. That was, broadly, the trip that later became the itinerary you have in front of you on this site.

Stradun, Dubrovnik's main street
Dubrovnik — three days of history and walls.
Panoramic view of Hvar's harbor
Hvar — the change of pace.

We started in Dubrovnik, three days to get lost among the walls, climb up at sunrise with almost no one else there, and discover that the city at night, once the crowds thin out, is even more beautiful than during the day. From there we took a ferry to Hvar — four hours across the Adriatic that fly by between island views — and the change of pace was obvious the moment we stepped onto the harbor: less history, more partying, fewer museums, more music spilling out of bars.

A trip that makes you experience two different Croatias without either one feeling forced or fake.

It wasn't a trip of constant relaxation, nor of constant partying either — and that's exactly the charm of building it this way. The day in Pakleni, hopping between coves by boat, was the perfect counterpoint right before heading home, the breather we didn't even know we needed after so much pace.

This series of posts is my way of telling how that trip really went — the good parts, what surprised us most, what we'd repeat without hesitation, and also what we'd do differently. And if you've already booked it, welcome to the club of people who are going to come back with more photos of the Adriatic than they need.
